Jeff Cappa Endorses Alan Moore
Not a Job to be Taken Lightly
Transcript:
I want to talk just a bit about the office of Sheriff. A lot of people don't understand that it is probably one of the most important constitutional offices in the state of Indiana. Number 1, the Sheriff is responsible for biggest liability in the county; that is a big, stone, one block wide, one block long building called the jail. The average state of population: 240-250 souls in that build the sheriff is responsible for. The sheriff is also the chief law enforcement officer in the county. Which means that he or she is in charge of the enforcement division, the jail division, civil process division, and all the civilian employees.
Then, on top of that, the Sheriff goes home every night knowing that they are responsible for over 60,000 people in Wayne County - for their safety and their family.
Not a job to be taken lightly.
Now, we've heard a couple of words tonight: transparency, character, integrity, trustworthiness.
What I can tell you is [Alan Moore] is every bit of the definition of each one of those words. And I'll keep it short - that is why I'm here to see you. I'm here to also give Alan my endorsement to be the next Sheriff of Wayne County, Indiana and I'm proud to say that I've had the opportunity to know him since about 1995.
Every time, when I was Sheriff, I called him because I needed data or I needed something to work on when we were doing our accrediation. He was always there. His philosophy is: do it right the first time and you don't have to go back and do it over. That's what you want in a Sheriff.
He is a person of good moral character and of high integrity.
I can also tell you, after listening tonight, not knowing who he's going to choose for his Chief Deputy, I've also had the pleasure of working with David [Winburn] for many, many years. Actually, I met him when he was a cadet (that tells you how old I am). [Alan] chose a good man and I mean that sincerely. He's a good person, he's an honest person - and I will take an honest man over anything else any day of the time.
So please join me in voting for Alan Moore to be our next Wayne County Sheriff.
